Fredericktown Prepares for Christmas Walk

The Fredericktown Community Christmas Walk will be held on Sunday, December 2nd from noon until 5 p.m. in downtown Fredericktown. The Christmas Walk is a locally organized event, which marks the beginning of the Christmas season in Fredericktown. For the past 5 years, the Walk has evolved into a day, which not only provides fun family activities, but also focuses on raising badly needed funds for families of Fredericktown. The fund drive held during the Christmas Walk is in coordination with Food For The Hungry, a non-profit organization that provides food and emergency funds to Interchurch Social Services and the Salvation Army of Knox County. The funds raised by Food For The Hungry through the Fredericktown Christmas Walk stay in Fredericktown. Last year, Fredericktown raised more than $8000 during the Christmas Walk.

Some familiar features of the Christmas Walk will be seen again at this year’s festivities, including horse-drawn wagon rides, Christmas tree sales, craft and ornament sales, Christmas karaoke singing and a visit from Santa Claus. “We are happy to be a part of this community event, which brings families into Fredericktown for a fun afternoon, while helping many other families during the Christmas season,” said Jill Linhares, co-chair of the Christmas Walk Committee. “Another great year is expected. The Fredericktown community always gets into the holiday season at the Christmas Walk.”

An important feature of the Christmas Walk is the Food For The Hungry Antiques and Collectibles Auction. This auction will be held at 1 p.m. in the Senior Citizens’ Building on the day of the Christmas Walk. Each year, an assortment of locally-donated art, antiques, and other items, combined with donations from regional institutions like Longaberger Baskets has made this auction a unique and fun experience for those attending. During the month of November, donations are requested for this auction. Items may be dropped off at the Village Office during regular business hours. Those interested in contributing items or services to the auction may contact the coordinator Jennifer Smith at 694-1405 or the Village Office at 694-9010.
