Volunteer Testimonial
Did you ever wonder how a small group of people in Knox County, Ohio can collect over 50 truckloads of food and $185,000 to fill our local food pantries? The answer is “It’s NOT a SMALL group of people!” Food for the Hungry is made of hundreds of individuals and groups working together for a common goal. And there is a spot for you in this worthwhile effort.
In 2004, I was watching the live auction of Christmas trees sponsored by Psi Ioto Xi and commented to a nearby friend, “We can do that”. My friend and I, members of a local alumni club, knew that if we decorated a tree with a Buckeye theme, it would sell for a large sum. That began our club’s affiliation with Food for the Hungry. Since 2005, our club members have decorated auction items for the local communities and driven pick-up trucks to the collection points.
There is a place for you and your friends to help out those who are in need. Why not inspire your golf league, card club, neighborhood, or any social group to man a collection point on Saturday, December 10? Volunteers can also work at the food pantries to unload and shelve the food items. How about a block party or game night that collects donations? You can support the auctions in Centerburg, Danville, Fredericktown, and Mount Vernon by contributing items or bidding high during the sale. I am sure you can come up with a unique idea that will benefit Food For The Hungry.
I can assure that you will be among the smiling and proud volunteers who go to bed on December 10th, more tired than normal, but knowing that together we made a difference in Knox County and the lives of our neighbors.
