Kathy's Story
Kathy Brechler, a longtime Knox County resident and Food For The Hungry (FFTH) volunteer, was named the organization’s new Executive Director in late April, 2024 by the FFTH board.
“As an experienced FFTH volunteer, Kathy has shown a great affinity with our purpose and goals" said Austin Swallow, president of FFTH Board.
As executive director, Brechler coordinates and oversees the annual FFTH Drive. She also manages the solicitation and review of grant applications and prepares and presents operating budgets. In addition, she represents FFTH within the community to other organizations and to the public at large.
Upon being hired, Brechler said, “Food-insecurity issues are both heart-breaking and largely compatible. I hope we’ll be able to build on the already great foundation of FFTH to bring our community ever closer to being able to meet food needs across the county.”
Brechler has been active in numerous volunteer positions in the community. She has served on boards and committees for diverse groups, such as the Knox Community Hospital Foundation, Knox Partnership for Arts and Culture, Leadership Knox, United Way of Knox County, and Ariel-Foundation Park.
Most pertinent to her role has been her leadership within FFTH. As the co-founder of the annual FFTH Snowflake Gala, and as a committee chair for the event, Brechler has made the gala not only a top fundraiser for FFTH but also a much-anticipated part of the holiday season in Knox County.
Brechler is the fourth person to serve as executive director of FFTH. Her predecessors include Lisa Mazzari, Sandy Rhoton, and Micah Rubenstein.

Olivia's Story
Olivia Greenich Stern was hired as the Marketing Director for Food For The Hungry at the height of the 2022 Drive Season. Since joining the FFTH team, Olivia has maintained the photographing and marketing of all FFTH events and initiatives and does graphic design and marketing material development for FFTH.
In 2023, Olivia implemented an online Cloud Space for all of FFTH's files and media, and her title was changed to Digital Content and Marketing Director. The organization of FFTH's digital content has greatly improved since that time and it is now easier for the board and volunteers to access any content they need for the success of FFTH's mission.
